us there. we have a lot of long days and quite a few short nights. and now we're that close. the door to a brighter future is there. it's open. it's waiting for us. i need your vote, and i need your help. walk with me to a better future. >> romney is not giving up on winning pennsylvania either. he campaigned just outside philadelphia last night. president obama still leads in most polls in the keystone state in pennsylvania has voted for the democrat in the last five elections. new jersey's governor says he is still voting for mitt romney, chris christie reiterating his support for the republican nominee. chris christie has been one of mitt romney's biggest supporters but has praised the president for his commitment to safety. >> on tuesday i'm voting for mitt romney because i think he's done a great job, but it doesn't mean i can't turn to the president of the united states of america and say thank you,

the chill. >> all reaction laxed from your hour of sleep over the weekend? >> i feel better. >> this man has no kids. my kids don't know it's daylight savings time. they're up at 5:00 in the morning. >> feels like 5:32. there's the view from space. good morning. we're tart starting off this mo morning. i think we should turn the clocks back every weekend. it's cold in our region. we're down to near freezing in parts of the region, especially around the shenandoah valley and blue ridge. a few places there dipped into the upper 20s as well as out of the mountains. right now in montgomery county upper 30s. generally upper 30s, prince george's, arlington, fairfax. right now at reagan national, it's at 43. got this cloud cover lingering here for much of the morning. by noontime, a little sunshine breaking out. by then we should be in the mid-40s. winds gusting to 20 miles an hour. sunrise today an hour earlier at 6:40.

sunset, that's an hour earlier. early dark afternoons, 5:03 sunset today. by then, right back down to the mid-40s after we peak near 50 midafternoon. and by this evening we clear out and winds will diminish. i'm back in ten minutes with another update. now a look at traffic with danella. first let's start as you travel southbound, 185 connecticut avenue getting closer to the beltway. the right lane is blocked by road work there. heading over to the beltway, talking about outer loop passing new hampshire avenue. you're going to see the left lane blocked by paving. this continues as you make your way to university boulevard. also keeping an eye on the road work along 395 north and southbound between the beltway and seminary road. it's alternating lane closures. very light volume. can't see it on camera, and it's set to wrap up around 5:00 a.m. i'm back in ten minutes. aaron and eun, back over to you. a week after sandy wreaked havoc on the east coast, things are starting to get back to

normal. new york city schools set to open today. the subway is running at about 80% of its normal service. gas lines still on. new york governor andrew cuomo and new jersey governor chris christie have promised an end to the crisis this week. fema approved $158 million in individual disaster assistance. so far sandy has claimed 113 lives in this country. utility companies are still working to restore power to almost 2 million people. even though the new york city marathon was cancelled ultimately, more than 1,000 participants decided to make a run to help those in need. runners delivered water, toilet paper, garbage bags, batteries, and ready to eat meals to victims of hurricane sandy. >> i'm glad that the run was cancelled and they were able to just lend a hand to folks in need. >> in new york, walmart and

pepsi donated 11 tractor-trailers packed with things like clothes, food, and cleaning supplies. beer companies donating water. amtrak service will be limited today between new york, washington, and boston because crews are still repairing the damage caused by sandy. amtrak is telling passengers to make reservations by phone or online to avoid sold out trains or long lines at the ticket counters. meanwhile new york is preparing for tomorrow's election as well. generators on stand by at a warehouse in brooklyn. they'll be shipped out to the new york city board of elections. nearly 60 polling locations across the five boroughs had to be closed or moved because of sandy. later this morning, montgomery county's council president will discuss pepco's response to sandy. he'll meet with members of the media today at the council office building in rockville. thousands were without power in the county following a massive storm. pepco is receiving generally high praise for its response to sandy restoring power to everyone only a few days after the storm. people in garrett county,

maryland, are finally digging out after the storm. sandy dumped more than 30 inches of snow in that area. more than 35% of state and county roads are back open. the national guard is helping with stranded vehicles and recovery efforts. 4:36 is our time now. a d.c. team will face charges for attacking two women in the district. 19-year-old demarco miles made his first court appearance saturday morning after police arrested him on friday. he's accused of sexually assaulting a howard university student friday afternoon. he's also facing charges for attacking a woman in her rhode island row apartment late last month. the woman in that incident is still in the hospital recovering from multiple stab wounds. tonight friends and family will gather to remember a montgomery county teenager who was hit a killed by a car while walking to school. christina wallace moore died last week while walking to seneca valley high school. the 15-year-old was crossing germantown road at wisteria drive when she was hit. tonight's vigil will be at seneca valley high school.

a family has pleaded for help in finding their father who suffers from dementia. 64-year-old mohammed yasdani has been missing from his home. his family is devastated by his disappearance. >> is he okay? is he safe? is he alive? is he not? he doesn't deserve this. my dad looked out for us our whole entire lives. he didn't deserve this. >> yazdani is 5'6" and wearing a gray sweatsuit when he disappeared. if you know anything about where he may be, please call police immediately. this morning the world's biggest economies will try to tackle the world's financial problems. it's the last day of the g-12 summit in mexico city. aincluded will be how to help

storm and what it may do to us. i'll have the very latest in ten minutes at 4:51. a look now at our traffic this monday morning with danella. good morning. >> good morning. still watching a couple of problems in our area. let's talk about a disabled vehicle southbound 395 at glebe. disabled vehicle blocking at least one of your lanes. i am starting to see just minor delays as you make your way southbound towards glebe. road work still slowing you down. southbound georgia avenue at sligo avenue making the commute in maryland. only the right lane is going to get you by the road work there. and traveling 50 as well, westbound as you make your way at 201, you're going to see construction. paving again still going on today. just a bit of a delay as you make your way across that area. american legion bridge, inner loop and outer loop nice and clear. looping to virginia, a couple of cones still set up there. i'll return in a few minutes and let you know if construction is still going on. it is now 4:42. 42 degrees. still to come, a deadly day at the zoo. the events which led to a pack of animals mauling a young

[ earnest ] out of the blue one day, we were told to build a 30-foot stage. gathered the guys and we built that 30-foot stage, not knowing what it was for. just days later, all three shifts were told to assemble in the warehouse. a group of people walked out on that stage and told us that the plant is now closed and all of you are fired... i looked both ways, i looked at the crowd, and...we all just lost our jobs. we don't have an income. mitt romney made over 100 million dollars by shutting down our plant and devastated our lives. turns out that when we built that stage,

chaos in the streets of portland as an occupy protest turned violent. this was the scene after police sprayed protesters. one man was arrested. an atlanta police department is remembering a man killed in a helicopter crash. the chopper went down in a busy atlanta neighborhood saturday night. no one on the ground was hurt. the officers were helping in the search for a missing 9-year-old boy who was later found. this morning the pittsburgh

zoo remains closed after a young boy fell into a wild dog exhibit and was mauled to death. police say the boy's mother tried to give him a better view by putting him on top of the railing of a viewing deck. that's when the 2-year-old fell 11 feet into the pit. they say a pack of african painted dogs attacked him immediately. zoo keepers say they did everything they could to save the boy, but it was too late. >> they responded immediately and were able to get several of the dogs into the back of the building. the veterinarians arrived and tried to scare the dogs away from the child with darts and were unsuccessful in doing that. >> police did manage to get all but one of the dogs away from the young boy. they had to shoot and kill that last dog. the zoo's president says this is the first time a visitor has died in that zoo's history. the world's first nuclear powered aircraft carrier ended its career in norfolk, virginia. the "uss enterprise" began

shutting down its eight nuclear reactor moments after it arrived at the port. the crew was welcomed home after nearly eight months at sea. the navy will officially deactivate the enterprise on december 1st, but it will take several months to be demissioned as its reactors are taken out. governor martin o'malley will attend three rallies on sexual equality. the third rally will be held at 3:00 this afternoon in our area at the university of maryland. today over 100 people are expected to attend a rally for maryland's d.r.e.a.m. act. students and advocated will gather at montgomery college, silver spring campus at 1:00 this afternoon. the law would allow all maryland residents to pay instate tuition regardless of immigration status. if the d.r.e.a.m. act passes, lower tuition could kick in as soon as next semester.

the redskins end their bye week on a down note. burgundy and gold feeling blue after falling to the panthers 24-13. news 4's dan hellie was reaction from the players following that frustrating loss. >> reporter: this was the tipping point for the redskins. enter the bye week at 4-5, we'd be talking about the playoffs, hoepds are still alive, everybody still praising rg3. lose, you drop to 3-6, and the season is all but over, and mike shanahan essentially acknowledged that in his post-game press conference, saying the redskins are now in evaluation mode, something you rarely hear from a head coach with seven games remaining in the regular season. >> obviously, very disappointed. a must win game gives you a chance to play for a playoff spot at the midway point when you're 3-5. it's got to be a must win obviously to get in the hunt. when you lose a game like that, now you're playing to see who obviously is going to be on your football team for years to come.

now we get a chance to evaluate players and see where we're at. obviously, we're not out of it statistically. now we find out what type of character we got and how guys fight through the rest of the season. >> people are going to criticize the coaches, they're going to criticize the players, and they're going to say a drastic change needs to be made. i don't feel that way. i feel it's on us, on the players to make sure we go out and play. regardless of what coach calls offense, defense, or special teams. we're the ones out there playing. we've got to make plays happen. >> the redskins have lost three straight going into the bye week, and things do not appear to be getting any better. after getting 13 penalties for 97 yards against the panthers, the skins are the most penalized team in the nfl, and the schedule after the bye wee doesn't get any easier at all. from fedex field, dan hellie, news 4 sports. if mitt romney wins the election on tuesday, he maybe can thank the redskins. since 1940 the redskins have helped decide all but one

temperatures are cold. you'll need your winter coat. temperatures down in the 30s most of the region. down to the 20s parts of the shenandoah valley and the blue ridge, parts of western maryland and west virginia. only the upper 30s now. prince george's, montgomery, arlington, fairfax counties, much of southern maryland, northern neck, eastern shore generally above freezing, but it's in the 40s. let's take a look at what may be happening here for the rest of the afternoon. ought to get sunshine breaking out and during the day on tuesday for election day, sun in the morning and get some clouds beginning to move in tuesday night as a coastal storm begins to develop. all this area in green and orange, this is rain. it's going to be coming into colder air. this area in blue, this is potential snow. this is as of wednesday late afternoon into wednesday night. we could have that rain changing to snow in our region. rain and wind right along the atlantic seaboard all the way up to new york city into new england. the storm is going to track right along the coast, it appears, and move into new

england by thursday. by wednesday, we'll dry out. our first snow of the season may be happening wednesday afternoon and wednesday evening. cloudy morning for your morning commute by 6:00 a.m. still a bit of a blustery wind, 30s to near 40 degrees. by your lunch hour, clouds breaking up, partly sunny, chilly and breezy. we'll be into the 40s by then. then this evening we'll clear out. by dawn tomorrow for election day for the morning, it's going to be cold, near 30. afternoon highs, i think, will climb into the 40s tomorrow with increasing clouds. and then tuesday night clouding up, and cloudy wednesday morning. the precipitation looks like it will likely move into the metro area from east to west during the day on wednesday. yes, it may change over and mix with some snow and gusty winds on wednesday afternoon and evening. probably change back. maybe a little rain for it on thursday. and we'll be in the 40s on thursday afternoon. we warm up. sunshine back on friday, saturday, and sunday. i'm back too in ten minutes.

danella is here now with traffic. good morning. >> good morning. still checking on a few things on the roads. we'll start with 395 southbound at glebe. had a disabled vehicle there blocking at least one of your lanes. now it's just on your right shoulder lane. the travel lanes are open. over to the beltway, inner loop and outer loop had road work taking away at least two of your lanes. it's set to end around 5:00 a.m. it should be in its final stages. over to the dulles toll road, taking the dulles toll road westbound at hupter mill road, left lane blocked by the road work there. and good news on 66 inside and outside of the beltway, no road work, no accidents to report right now. aaron and eun, back over to you. starting today, you'll get a little break if you get a speed camera ticket in washington, d.c. fines are dropping $25 for any speeding violation up to 15 miles per hour. if you're caught going 25 miles per hour or more over the speed limit fines are up to $300.
